Dirty Old Women - Erotica 730pm

Older women: Wise enough to tell the truth about sex – what they want, what they've done, what makes them hot. Dirty Old Women, a monthly series at Octopus, celebrates erotic writing by self-identified older women of all flavors.

Kristen Caven is an upstanding member of the community who has been trying not to write erotica since her first published work (The Real World Adventures of Sammy Spermpaper doll & coloring book) ... but is not doing so well at that right now. Kristen will be reading the sexy bits from this year's novella, The Vesuvian Affair, about an elemental and explosive attraction between strangers in Venice, plus other exciting works by her various alter egos.

She's authored books and blogs about psychology, parenting, business, dance and shoe-related fairytales, and was recently elected as president of the California Writers Club (Berkeley Branch). Her tender, true and/or tantalizing stories, cartoons and articles have been published in Oakland Unseen, Oakland Tribune, ADDitude Magazine, The Monthly, Rudolf’s Diner, Doorknobs and Body Paint, Synchronized Chaos, Full of Crow, The Sophisticate, and The Good Men Project. Meanwhile, ask Kristen about her new incubator for artists and writers burning with creative projects.

Beth Elliott is the author of four books, two fiction and two non-fiction, including her recently completed experimental erotic fiction collection The Smart Drug Masochists.  She is also a singer-songwriter who has released one album to date, the “checkered career retrospective” Buried Treasure. Beth has written articles and reviews for SistersSapphireThe Lesbian Tide, and other women’s and lesbian publications.  She was the editor of Wavelength, the newsletter for SapphSIG, a Mensa lesbian special interest group, and was a columnist for Telewoman and the weekly Bay Area Reporter newspaper.  She is a multi-generation California native, with a Tidewater Virginia heritage and a Jesuit education (“Be extremely afraid”).

Open mike starts at 7:30 and is open to EVERYONE; featured readings begin at 8 pm. Dirty Old Women is hosted by Susan Kuchinskas and takes place on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Octopus Literary Salon, 2101 Webster at 21st St, Oakland. This event is free, inclusive and accessible!
