Our Mission:

To promote the visibility of women and girl instrumentalists of all ethnicities in jazz and to advocate for their inclusion in all aspects of the art form. JazzWomen and Girls Advocates was founded in Berkeley California by professional women jazz musicians to provide a voice for women in jazz, both professional and vocational.

Our objectives:

As a group we can help women and girls be become an equal part of the jazz community and culture. We will use your support to:

  • Encourage festival and concert promoters to include women artists among their headliners.
  • Urge bandleaders to provide access to women as members of the professional jazz ensembles they lead.
  • Work with record companies to increase the signing of women instrumentalists as leaders.
  • Influence educational institutions to hire women instrumental faculty at summer camps and college and university jazz departments.
  • Convince jazz editors and publishers to employ women writers and focus on the activities of women and girls in jazz.
  • Demand that professional jazz organizations give women and girls serious and accurate representation in their ranks at all levels.
