Meeting the Muse with Irina Rivkin, Laura Zucker & Marianne Barlow 7pm $10-20
Meeting the Muse, a Celebration of Women and Song https://www.facebook.com/MeetingTheMuse/
Come and meet three of your four Meeting the Muse hosts at our first event at the Octopus Literary Salon! We'll each do a set, then do an in-the-round set after intermission. Come out and hear our new songs and old favorites!
About the artists:
OutMusic Awardee Irina Rivkin layers poetic lyrics with rich textured harmonies, swirling with vocal percussive beats, all created live on-the-spot using her loop station instrument. Rivkin “performs her own breathtaking act as a "live one-woman choir" (using digital looping technology to astonishing effect)” Michael Dougan, SF Chronicle
Singer-songwriter Laura Zucker wins audiences over with a hard-won perspective and a positive spin. The powerful imagery of her songs and stories ring so true you might think she’s read your diary - and you’ll find yourself humming her infectious melodies for days to come. She’s a two-time finalist in the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition in Texas, Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist, 5 time West Coast Songwriters Association Best Song of the Year. With four CD releases to her credit, Laura continues to impress with incisive yet sensitive lyrics, evocative melodies and arrangements that cut straight to the heart.
Marianne Barlow is a singer-songwriter, music teacher and chorus director based in Oakland. Her lyrics capture the truth in things, whether they be cute & fun, forlorn & wistful, or defiant & mischievous. You just might find yourself singing along to her catchy melodies.
