Melanie Ida Chopko, The Two Penelopes & The Braxton Hicks 9pm
Melanie Ida Chopko writes and performs, according to one reviewer, "with wit, acuity and grace.” Her songs on guitar and piano feature poetically astute lyrics and melody, and fold together modern folk and blues with a big crush on jazz. In the tradition of the citizen artist, she is as interested in the complexity of the world around her as the one within herself, exploring both with artistry, intimacy and humor. She blurs the line onstage between musician, storyteller/performer and audience, making listeners laugh out loud and then cracking their hearts open.
The Two Penelopes are actually 2 Michaels. Michael H writes beautifully complicated guitar tunes in mostly minor keys. Michael L adds splashes of tinkly piano, sprinkled on top.
The Braxton Hicks are premature contractions of the best possible kind and you will feel them deep in your loins. Featuring 2 guitars, piano, keyboard, bass, accordion and maybe even some cowbell, these boys will take you on a tour of musical history that dances The Last Waltz, escapes a Texas Tornado and drops you off with your dear old Uncle (Tupelo).
