NaNoWriMo Reading Series 7pm
NaNoWriMo Presents NaNoLitMo!
The new, exciting, literary reading series for Wrimos and the wide world of local writers who dare to write greatly (or you know, who dare to write anything at all, which counts).
In August, Aya de Leon will be our guest of honor! Aya de Leon directs the Poetry for the People program at UC Berkeley. Kensington Books published her debut feminist heist novel, UPTOWN THIEF, in July 2016. Her writing and performance work has received acclaim in the Village Voice, Washington Post, Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Bay Guardian and the East Bay Express. A graduate of Harvard College, with an MFA from Antioch University, Aya has been an artist in residence at Stanford University, a Cave Canem poetry fellow, and a slam poetry champion. She publicly married herself in the 90s, and from 1995 to 2012 hosted an annual Valentine’s Day show that focused on self-love. She also blogs and tweets about culture, gender, and race.
Come listen to her read, then partake in a mini-writing challenge to which she'll challenge us! Then enjoy a raucous Q&A with the audience in which no holds will be barred!
Join us at Octopus Literary Salon in Oakland as we showcase local authors of all genres in our, new, bimonthly series. Each event will have a reading, a writing-related activity, and a Q&A session with the author.
Come support your fellow authors and help us celebrate NaNoWriMo all year long.
