Poetry with Hazel White, Anna Morrison, Terry Taplin & Valerie Witte 4pm Free
Hazel White is the author of Peril as Architectural Enrichment (Kelsey Street Press) and Vigilance Is No Orchard (Nightboat Books, 2018). In 2016, she completed with poet Denise Newman a two-year public poetry project, Biotic Portal at Strawberry Creek, bioticportal.com, a collaboration with the UC Botanical Garden, at Berkeley, supported by a Creative Work Fund grant. Her poetry has appeared in New American Writing, Denver Quarterly, Elderly, and Fence. She grew up on farms in England, and is the author also of many gardening books.
Anna Morrison lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Her poems won the LUMINA and Prism Review poetry prizes and can also be found in journals such as Interim,Puerto del Sol, Shampoo, and Adrienne: A Poetry Journal of Queer Women. She’s helped make some beautiful books as an editor for Kelsey Street Press, and she’s currently an MFA candidate at Saint Mary’s College of CA.
Terry Taplin holds several local and national slam poetry championships and final-stage performances spanning 2006–2012 across the youth and collegiate circuits. By occupation he is a scholar of Classical and Medieval/Renaissance Art, Literature, History and Philosophy. Terry Taplin's performance work has appeared on stages ranging from The San Francisco Opera House and The Masonic Auditorium to The Apollo Theater in Harlem and Da Poetry Lounge in Hollywood New. He performed at Poetry Mission, Lyrics and Dirges, Under the Influence, Beast Crawl and the 10th Berkeley Poetry Festival. He is the co-recipient of the Ina Coolbrith Memorial Poetry Prize for undergraduate poetry and the Newman Award for undergraduate writing.
Valerie Witte’s latest chapbook, It’s been a long time since I’ve dreamt of someone, was recently published by Dancing Girl Press, and her other books include a game of correspondence (2015, Black Radish Books) and The history of mining (2013, g.e. collective/Poetry Flash). Her work has also appeared in literary journals such as VOLT, Diagram, Dusie, Alice Blue, Shampoo, Interim, and elsewhere. She is a founding member of the Bay Area Correspondence School and was previously a member of Kelsey Street Press.
